New Sounds

One of the smallest daily challenges for composers is to find common ground between two different instruments. In this way, in addition to the sounds of the two musical instruments we create a "new" third sound (might even call it and instrument).
Composing for a Duo for Flute & Viola it is certainly very easy to write a beautiful melody and a beautiful accompaniment. My professor Vykintas Baltakas had said in one of our first meetings that: "Composing for two instruments that just coexist without thinking about what they have in common, then we might as well put the instruments in two different rooms, play at the same time and to hear the same result"
All the above made me think a lot and I started organizing layouts and charts, making pairs of musical instruments trying to find their common points. After many A4 papers, many hours and much thought, the personal notes were created with various boards. Creating "third" instruments with each of these duos will be a new color in my palette. The use of such colors brings a different perspective to each new project.
After all, should the different instruments be in the same (concert) hall? This question is obviously rhetorical. On the contrary, what should be asked as a question is whether each composer will choose to bring two musical instruments in one room or two different instruments in two rooms.
